Carbondale to (almost) Clark's Summit

This is a mostly commercial stretch of road, but I did get to meet some volunteer firefighthers gettiing ready for a Chicken BBQ. Volunteer Firefighthers are becoming a rare breed these days, just like volunteer anything. That's certainly a big difference from when I was growing up. With all our time-saving devices, we have less time.

Also saw the world's biggest pothole. I didn't expect to be impressed but I was. It must have been 60-80 feet deep. (It was a glacial pothole, not a street pothole.)

I was bothered by the actual road on business 6. There was no room to walk. I mean, you've got all these big chain stores. The towns could have easily demanded that they install side walks when the shopping centers were built. The cost would have been pocket change for the developers and the stores. Some people do walk along there.

We're staying in a fancy hotel with a big whirlpool right next to our room. The PA Tourism people have been great, as were the tourist groups in Cape Cod, New Bedford, southeastern CT and Orange County (NY).
