Friday April 30, 2004 Laceyville (Wyalusing) to Wysox (Towanda). Spent all of Thursday trapped in the hotel room filing stories and doing other business stuff. I almost missed being on the road. Friday I hit the road and the hills - and missed being in the hotel room. It's very pretty out here. The mountains aren't terribly high, but the valleys stretch out for miles and miles. Lots of farms with neatly divided fields. It's really picture-book stuff. Didn't meet many people today. There weren't many houses or businesses along the road. But one man, who reminded me of Walter Conn, a state representative in my hometown of New Milford, CT stopped and offered me a ride. That's very encouraging. A woman offered me two bottles of water and something to eat. Nice folks out here. We're at the Comfort Inn in Wysox today and I'm aiming for Troy tomorrow. This marks the end of the first month of the walk. One more week and we'll be half way through Pennsylvania. |
