Wellsboro to Galeton to Coudersport, PA It's very pretty (and hilly) country up here in Northern PA. It's been wet, cloudy and misty. The mixture of clouds on the hills is beautiful and the clouds paint a different picture every day. The towns around here are very, very small by Connecticut standards. Potter County has fewer people than the town where I live, New Milford, CT ( population ± 25,000). This really is the place where everybody knows your name. Most of the people seem to like it small, they're not dying to bring in lots more people. Coudersport, home of Adelphi Communications, is bigger. Made it over Denton Hill (the high spot in this area) Friday. It's the only triple continental divide east of the Mississippi. Three rivers start on the mountain. The Allegheny heads west to the Ohio, Mississippi and Gulf. The Genesee flows north into Lake Onterio and eventually the North Atlantic. Pine Creek/ Susquehanna flows east to Chesapeake Bay. Got to meet Terri Dennison in Galeton. She's done a terrific job of coordinating with regional travel bureaus and lining up places for us to stay in PA. (Orange County, New York was terrific too!) Hopefull we'll get the same treatment in Ohio and beyond. Tomorrow we head for Port Allegany (yes that's the right spelling!) |
