Monday June 21, 2004 Munster IN to Orland Park ILL Made it to Illinois! 1,200 miles, about one third of the way. Pretty good for an old guy. Odds are getting better, I figure they're only about 20-1 against us now. This was a rough day. It was tough starting after four days off road. It got worse when the stidewalk disappeared about three miles into the walk. Very heavy traffic, no place to walk (or ride a bike). Ugh! Then it rained Then it rained harder And harder. I was drenched. Even my nose hairs were soaked. Ah Choo. On the plus side, I got to meet Mad Mac, the guy who walked the entire length of Illinois five (or seven) years ago. Essentially, he sort of lost a challenge. He has a lot of stories about his walk. Unfortunately, I wasn't smart enough to write them down. I'll just have to remember them the best I can (or make them up) when I write this's week's story (just kidding about the make them up part.) Also - got a very nice reception at the Chicago Southland travel bureau. Nice folks there. Tomorrow: heading for Joliet
only a week away from Davenport - Ice Cream City. |
