East of Council Bluffs (Iowa) to Omaha, Nebraska Well, we made it through the hills of Iowa. Now it's on to the hills of Nebraska - Yes Omaha is very hilly! Very!! Think San Francisco. There's no walkway over the Missouri between Council Bluffs and Omaha, so I took a chance and walked on a highway bridge. The shoulder was actually more roomy than some of the other roads I've been on. Even so, I walked very fast and was really happy to be off that bridge. We're taking an extra day off tomorrow, our first since Gary. It will be busy day off. We'll take in a Lewis and Clark festival tomorrow and later meet with the sons of the Grand Army of the Republic (Route 6 is the GAR Highway). Monday, our regular day off, we'll be heading to Girls and Boys Town in Omaha. I'm encountering the wonderful problem of having more good stories than I can use. I already have more than enough for next week, and we haven't even visited Girls and Boys town. We've been joined by Russ Leonard of the Route 6 Tour Association. He'll be with us for a while which is good, because he's tireless and knows the route very well. |
