Friend to Sutton, Nebraska My hot-weather luck ran out on Tuesday. It was hot, hot, hot. And sun was relentless. I came to believe Nebraska is about 150 miles closer to the Sun than New England. They have huge irrigation systems watering soy and corn fields. Sometimes the water sprays out toward the road and provides a nice little shower. Hope there was nothing more than water in there. Late in the day I stumbled into a restaurant in Fremont and drank about a gallon of juice and water. It was an interesting place. The money till was on the counter. Regulars just put their money in and made change for themselves. Hmm, I wonder if that would work in New York. Wednesday was much cooler in the morning. Nice dark clouds covered the sun till afternoon. The folks in Sutton had a warm greeting for us last night and we'll be meeting more people in Hastings (the birthplace of Kool-Aid) tomorrow. |
