Arrapaho to Cambridge to the edge of McCook, NE

Still bummed out by leaving the cat behind, but plunging forward anyway. The countryside changed after we left Holdrege. There seem to be more wide open spaces. There are hills too. They're not exactly mountains, but when you reach the top you can see everything for, I don't know, 20-40-80 miles.

There seems to be quite a bit of sand under the soil. Sometimes chunks of the hills have collapsed, exposing a hill of sand covered by earth and grass. I thought this must be part of the Nebraska sand hills, but I'm told they're much farther north.

The fields in this section of the state seem smaller and there are more trees. There are more cows in pastures, too.

The updates will be sporadic for a while because AOL doesn't provide local access in this part of the state - not even in the larger towns. AOL (Always On Lookout for money) offers an 800 access number but charges $6 an hour for the service. I'm sure they're making a killing on that one. It boils down to Travis and I having to be very careful about how much time we spend on line. Right now I'm working out of the local library.
