Dillon, Colorado to top of Vail Pass An absolutely gorgeous day. Lake Dillon, where I started, was beautiful, surrounded by green hills that started right at the shore. Then there were big gray mountains on all sides in the background. Walked through Frisco, one of the many pretty little towns in this area. Seems like every town we visit has it's own personality and they're all interesting. They're also pricey, but I guess you expect that in a tourist area. So I wound up eating at Chez Subway - again. The path from Frisco up to the top of Vail Pass was treat. It was all uphill, of course, but you hardly noticed because it was so beautiful - especially the section from Copper to the top of the pass. Most of the trail is in a valley between and below the two sections of I-70. It goes through some absolutely gorgeous stretches of yellow flowers. Don't know whether that's in the fall or all the time. Anyway, I'd love to come back - even though it was rain-hailing by the time I reached the top. The only scary part was riding back down in the car. |
