Saturday October 09, 2004 Soldier Summit (more or less) to Spanish Fork UT The human body is such a mysterious thing. You wonder how professional athletes can spend all week or even months preparing for an event and come out flat. Yesterday, (as always) I began the morning wishing I didn't have to walk. But after a freezing cold (about 30-degrees and I was in shorts and t-shirt) start, it was almost fun. Even at the end I was barely tired. Today, I was tired after five miles. More tired after 10 and wondering where the end was at 15. It got worse, then around mile 19 (when I reached Spanish Fork) it seemed so easy. I ended up walking 22 or so miles - much to the frustration of Travis who waited patiently (perhaps) in the car. So I guess it's not the body, after all, it's all in the mind. Or is it? |
