Delta, Utah to Sevier Desert

Well, we're finally to the place we've been worried about since the start of the trip. Route 6 and 50 from Delta west is the start of what's often called "the lonliest road in America" Maybe it is.

There certainly aren't many houses once you pass Hinkley (just outside Delta). Actually I saw just one today. And that had warnings to keep off their propety.

But there was enough traffic so that I didn't feel abandoned. And yes it is desert, but it was very pretty. There are mountains on all sides and even though they're not filled with trees or capped with snow yet. The haze softens their features and makes them attractive.

With the mountains you can see why this is part of the great basin. No water leaves the area. Even the Sevier River just peters out, they say.

Probably these folks are lucky. If they had a river flowing south, Los Angeles or Las Vegas would want the water.
