Sunday-Monday November 21-22, 2004 On Route 14 Well, here we are in southern California. Wish I had worn my winter jacket. Sunday was the pits, with a capital S. It was really cold in the morning, but it's been that way every day. Then it gets hot in the afternoon with the sun beating on you. So I dressed accordingly, I even wore my sun hat. Nasty Mr. Weather had other plans. There was a wicked, WICKED wind blowing down from the north. It was so strong that I had to run at times just to keep from gettiing blown over. Really! The sun NEVER came out. [Where are all those beach girls and boys anyway?] When I got to the top of the hills snow flakes were coming down and I had just a sweat jacket on. No gloves and that dang sun hat. Now THAT was a big help! Despite it all, I managed to walk 25 miles then added five more today, a day off. So we're in pretty good shape milage wise. I think we're about 150 from Long Beach (120 from LA). So we should make it by December 1 - barring any setbacks. Today started better, but the computer ate about three hours of work. Have you ever heard me curse? Travis did tonight. Lots of curses. Not very pretty. Oh, I didn't mention that a couple of wolves crossed the road about 100 feet from me yesterday. They didn't seem the least bit interested in me. Nonetheless, I was looking over my shoulder for a long time, wondering when those wolves were going to attack. And, yes, they were wolves not coyotes. Coyotes don't have bushy tails and they aren't bigger than german shepherds. I guess the good news is I've survived all of this and now a have a couple more yarns to tell. |
